Report Plan:

• Paraphrase paragraph: graphs>bar charts; show>illustrate; percentage>proportion; participated>took part in
• Overview/summary paragraph: (1) a higher % of boys participated in sport (2) dancing was more popular among girls
• Paragraph 3: cultural activities – compare figures for drama and singing; contrast % for dancing and playing musical instruments
• Paragraph 4: sport – contrast figures for boys and girls

Essay Plan:

• Introduction: refer to the task question.  My opinion: the advantages outweigh the drawbacks
• Paragraph 2:  disadvantages for the environment (1) food transport causes pollution – emissions e.g. soya from Brazil to China (2) export crops = monocultures = habitat destruction
• Paragraph 3: the economy (1) advantage – boosts local economy (2) disadvantage – a reduction in the range of foods if only local foods are consumed
• Conclusion: although there are drawbacks, the advantages of eating food grown locally outweigh the disadvantages.
